Twelve-year-old boy dies by suicide in Homa Bay

Police have launched probe over the death of a twelve-year-old boy who is suspected to have committed suicide in Rachuonyo North East Sub County, Homa Bay county.

The class seven pupil of Dido Primary school identified as Felix Odhiambo Okech allegedly committed suicide in a bush away from their home on Saturday evening by hanging himself with a rope from the top of a tree.

He is reported to have left home to untie their goats from the grazing field but went missing until late in the evening when his lifeless body was found dangling from the top of the tree.

According to the minor’s father Michael Okech, Felix might have hanged himself after he found one goat dead in the grazing field under unclear circumstance.

He said that out of fear, the boy removed a rope from the dead goat and used it to hang himself.

Rachuonyo East Sub-County Police Commander Justus Kucha said police have not established the motive behind the incident.

The deceased’s body was moved to Rachuonyo South Sub County Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
