Teacher Service Commission (TSC) deputy chief executive Kennedy Mulunda has been fired for soliciting bribes from teachers.
TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia wrote a letter informing Mulunda of his sacking.
However, former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary general Wilson Sossion has come out to condemn the dismissal of Mulunda, terming the decision by the commission as witch hunt, threatening to file a legal; challenge move.
“In due course, we shall be peeling away the mask of corruption scandals blow-by-blow at TSC from promotions, transfers, Teacher Professional Development training, Competency-Based Curriculum training funds and how fast it is cleared by the Treasury before ending in the pockets of thieves, tender scandals and kickbacks from third parties’ deductions.”
Sossion in a statement stated that the termination is part of a plan to prevent Mulunda from taking over when Macharia exits office.
The former outspoken further questioned who between Mulunda and Macharia was engaging in big time corruption while at the same time threatening to expose the rot in TSC and ensure action is taken if the Kenya Kwanza coalition led by William Ruto wins the election.
He praised Dr Mulunda as a highly educated human resources expert who should be allowed to run TSC without being maligned.
A team of commissioners who probed the matter found Mulunda guilty of threatening to deal with teachers who defied his overtures in the event that he becomes the CEO after Nancy Macharia exits office.
In the termination letter, Macharia said she was acting under instructions from the commissioners after investigations from principals found overwhelming evidence against him.
He is also accused of intimidating TSC officials in the said regions.
One of the principals said Mulunda influenced the school to award a laboratory chemicals and equipment tender to a company that was not among the initial prequalified suppliers.
Others said he forced board chairpersons to award tenders without following due process, sometimes even to his relatives.
Mulunda however denied the allegations lodged against him.
