Italian president Sergio Mattarella in the country for a four days’ state visit
Italian President Sergio Mattarella is in the country for a four days’ official state visit.
Sergio jetted into the country yesterday evening and was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.
Currently, president William Ruto is holding bilateral talks with Sergio at State House, Nairobi after he was welcomed with a 21-gun salute and inspected the guard of honuor at State House grounds,
Yesterday, Mutua was accompanied by his Defence counterpart Aden Duale alongside a host of other senior government officials.
According to Mutua, President Sergio’s visit is expected to boost trade and investment opportunities between our two countries and promote the development of key sectors such as Water, Agriculture, and Tourism.
“His Excellency Mattarella will also hold a public lecture on climate change at the University of Nairobi.” Mutua said.
Announcing his visit early February after meeting the Italian ambassador to Kenya Roberto Natali at State House, President Ruto said the visit will enhance cooperation between the two countries.
“President Mattarella’s visit is a high point in our relationship and we are looking forward to fruitful discussions on water harvesting, distribution and irrigation.”
The President added that the people of Kenya and Italy have a long and unique relationship epitomized by Malindi which hosts many Italians.
Ambassador Natali said the Italian government and the private sector are committed to investing in water provision and harvesting in Kenya.
