Traffic disruption on Thika Road, Uhuru Highway tomorrow to pave way for Rally cars

The National Police Service has warned of massive traffic disruptions during tomorrow’s flag off of the World Rally Championship in Nairobi before heading to Naivasha between 8am and noon.
Traffic Police department has advise motorists to avoid Uhuru Highway and Thika Road during the timelines highlighted.
Nairobi Traffic boss Joshua Omukata said during the time, motorists and spectators will be required to be vigilant not only to allow space for rally cars but also to avoid any incidents.
“The vehicles will leave Safari Park Hotel for Kasarani Stadium around 6 am and proceed to KICC via Thika road for a ceremonial flag off at 8 am. During that period, there will be traffic disruption on some major roads and we urge motorists to bear with us,” Omukata said.
According to Omukata, the ceremonial flag off will start at KICC at 12.45 pm.
The vehicles will then pass through Parliament Road, Haile Selasie Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Wangari Mathai Road and then head to Kasarani via Thika Road.
After that, the Safari Rally vehicles will head back to Thika Road and pass through Muthaiga as they head to Naivasha.
Officers and marshals from different departments will be placed on the roads to ensure free flow of traffic and safety for everyone and those who must use the mentioned roads.
The World Rally Championship will return on June 24-27 after a 19 -year absence.
In her final inspection of the Service Park and Media Centre at the Kenya Wildlife Training institute Naivasha, Sports CS Amb. Amina Mohamed expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness ahead of the World Rally Championship on Kenya’s soil.
President Uhuru Kenyatta urged Kenyan motorsport enthusiasts who will be attending the four-day Safari Rally to behave well, saying it had taken the country years of negotiations and preparations to bring back the WRC event after an 18-year absence.
“It was 2010 when we started trying to work with WRC to ask them to get back. There were a lot of hurdles along the way. The preparations have been intense and I want to thank all agencies, our private sector, and rally enthusiasts who have given their time and effort to ensure that this event takes place,” he said.
