Tight contest as Kenya Cup volleyball tournament heats up
Equity Bank is proving an interesting pick in the pool and is presently locked in a fight for second place.
The battle in Pool A is heating up as teams fight for the top spot in the 2025 edition of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF)-Kenya Cup.
Heavyweights General Service Unit is dominating Pool A, winning both matches and securing 6 points. They have so far only dropped one set, proving their strength on the court. The former league champions with a set ratio of 1.6 and a score ratio of 1.19 are looking clear favorites to top the group.
On the other hand, Administration Police Kenya is a strong contender in Pool A as well. APK is proving to be a tough competitor securing 1 win and 1 loss with 3 points. Their set ratio of 1.33 gives them a slight edge, but with a score ratio of 0.92, they need to step up if they want to challenge GSU for the top spot.
Equity Bank on their part is proving an interesting pick in the pool and is presently locked in a fight for second place. The bankers are sitting on 3 points with one win and one loss. Their set ratio of 1.00 and score ratio of 1.00 shows they are evenly matched with their opponents.
Last in pool A is Kenya Army who is definitely struggling a lot in this tournament. The soldiers have lost both matches and failed even to win a single set in the process. With zero points and a score ratio of 0.79, they need a huge turnaround to stay competitive.
KPA on the other hand did not have a match making their current standing unclear. Unlike its challengers, the Dockers are yet to play.
With GSU leading the charge, APK and Equity Bank battling for second, and Kenya Army struggling, Pool A is set for an intense finish.
In Pool B, five teams are also up and about for the challenge including KDF, Trailblazers, KAPU, Kenya Prisons and CHEMA. The competition in is just as intense with Kenya Defense Force leading the line.
The military side is leading the pack with a perfect record .They have won both matches and earned 6 points, making them the dominant team in Pool B. With a set ratio of 2.0 and a score ratio of 1.27 (195 points won vs. 154 lost), they are looking unstoppable and certainly the team to beat.
As for Trailblazers, they have shown remarkable promise, securing 3 points from one win .Their set ratio of 3.0 indicates a strong showing when they do win, and their score ratio of 1.15 (96 points won vs. 83 lost) suggests they have the potential to challenge KDF if they keep up the momentum. Analysts believe with greater consistency, this outfit of rising stars is one to look out for in domestic competitions.
Kenya Airports’ Police Unit (KAPU) is currently ranked third with no points from two losses. Their set ratio of 0.33 is lower than Trailblazers, indicating they have struggled in set wins. With a score ratio of 0.82, they will need to step up their game if they want to advance.
Kenya Prisons on their part has had a tough and frustrating tournament, losing their only match so far. With no points, a dismal set ratio of 0.33, and a score ratio of a mere 0.8, they have to post a strong comeback to stay alive in the fight. CHEMA is at the bottom of the table, having not played any matches yet.
With KDF leading confidently, Trailblazers fighting for a top spot, and KAPU & Kenya Prison struggling to stay in contention, the battle in Pool B is far from over
