The country receives 210,000 doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine from U.S

The country has received the second batch of 210,000 doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines from the United States, boosting the country’s effort to inoculate its population against the pandemic.

The vaccines arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) around 1am today from the COVAX facility.

It is an additional dose on top of the 795,600 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines that Kenya received from the U.S on September 27.

Another batch of doses of the vaccine is due to arrive in the country in the coming weeks to complete the 2.03 million Pfizer vaccine doses the U.S government pledged to donate to Kenya.

This month, the country received the first donation of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccines from the US with the second shipment arriving in the country last week completing the 1.76 million donation of Moderna doses.

To enable the use of Pfizer vaccines in Kenya, the Government of Japan donated  12 ultra-low temperature freezers and accessories.

Three of the freezers were installed at the central vaccine stores in Kitengela while the rest were distributed to 9 regional stores in Nairobi, Eldoret, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri, Meru and Kakamega.

Techinicians are being trained on their maintenance and operation.
