He is said to have been shot by a bullet believed to have been fired by police officers when the group the deceased joined allegedly invaded the Sairam supermarket, in Maseno town and other business premises along Kisumu-Busia road.

However, so far, there is no official report by the National Police Service headed by Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome or the civilian oversight body, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

Kisumu and Nairobi experienced violent protests for the better part of the day with rioters engaging police in running battles.
