Ruto commits to free, fair party primaries slated for next week
Deputy President William Ruto and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate commit to free and fair party primaries slated for next week.
Speaking at his official residence in Karen, DP Ruto said an additional 15 million ballot papers will be printed ahead of the commencement of party nominations on April 14.
“I want to assure all candidates across the country that we have the necessary experience and knowledge to run a credible nomination and we know the importance of that exercise.
And as I told our members I will personally supervise to ensure that the exercise is above board and every member gets an opportunity to be voted for to win or not win fairly,” Ruto said.
The party will enlist 128 presiding officers, 100,000 polling clerks to manage primaries; the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) says it has been cleared to use schools.
NEB chairperson Anthony Mwaura said all is set for the nominations process, assuring that the exercise will be seamless.
“All the nomination materials have been procured and some of these materials are being distributed to various counties.
The Ministry of Education has cleared us to use schools for the exercise,” Mwaura stated.
The elections board will also recruit 47 returning officers for the exercise.
The party will hold nominations in 12 counties for the Governor’s seat, 19 counties for the Senate, and 27 counties for women representative candidates, according to the board.
