Police IG Hillary Mutyambai set to undergo medical check-up, his deputy Gabow to take over
Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai has appointed Noor Gabow to temporarily act on his behalf as he goes for a medical check-up.
Mutyambai however did not specify the timeline he will be away nor the hospital he was set to visit.
“This is to inform the public that I will be away from office attending to a medical checkup effective today, 26th August 2022,” read the statement.
In a statement Friday to newsrooms, Mutyambai stated that Gabow will take over from him with immediate effect.
“In my absence, Noor Gabow, the Deputy Inspector General – Administration Police Service will act as the Inspector General of the National Police Service until my return,” he stated.
Mutyambai assumed office in April 2019 for a period of four years. His term thus ends in April 2023. He was picked from the National Intelligence Service where he was managing terrorism.
It is the first time under his term for Mutyambai to delegate his mandate for medical reasons.
Prior to the elections Deputy President William Ruto expressed his concerns about the Mutyambai claiming he is the most incompetent boss in the whole world.
The DP was speaking at his Karen office after his meeting with delegates from the International Republic Institute (IRI) and National Democratic Institute (NDI) on the pre-election assessment mission ahead of the August 9 polls.
During the meeting Ruto said while he had faith in the police unit to do their job during the general election, his fears rest with their boss.
“The only concern from where we sit is the police. We do not doubt the capacity of the police to handle the situation, we doubt the command. We have the most incompetent IG in the whole world and that’s the problem,” DP Ruto claimed.
He questioned Mutyambai’s office’s ability to handle a crisis independently and, in a familiar pivot made reference to his relations with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
