Deputy President William Ruto has defended his bottom-up economic campaign platform.
Ruto is accusing his critics of trivializing a proposal that has the capacity to transform the economic fortunes of the country in ways never seen before.
According to him, the trickle down approach failed because it bred cartels.
“It is the economy. Trickle-down failed for aiding patronage and cronyism, breeding cartels and monopolies that benefit few,” he tweeted.
He maintained that the ordinary citizens will be the biggest beneficiaries of this model were he is to ascend to power after the expiry of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
“Bottom-up is anchored on deliberately promoting investments and financial instruments targeting the millions who are unemployed hustler enterprises/farmer groups,” he stated.
Ruto was reacting to a headline by a local newspaper saying that he had triggered a storm with his bottom-up plan.
While in Rurii Ward, Nyandarua County, Ruto also told off his political opponents from the Opposition groupings who have been criticizing his platform.
He said the leaders who are keen on facing off with him have no agenda for the country and their only plan is to compete with him, a plan he said was bound to fail.
“Their main plan is to compete with me. They have no plan, agenda or manifesto. I am telling them, we are ready. We have a party called UDA, we have an agenda and we have Kenyans who are ready to work and move forward with us. If your only agenda is to compete with me, you will be stuck,” Ruto said.
