Embu businessman shot dead was battling drug trafficking court cases
Embu businessman who was shot dead on Wednesday by unknown people in Embu town had for long been on the radar screen of detectives.
Dennis Mbae Mutegi, alias Mbuyu, was also battling court cases for drug trafficking, robbery with violence, and murder.
The controversial businessman is also said to have been on police radar over suspicion of being involved in crime, with a series of burglary and mugging incidents within Embu town being tied to his name.
He has reportedly been arrested severally in connection with leading theft and drug peddling rings, but always found his freedom in mysterious and controversial manners.
In 2017, he shocked many when he declared his interest in the Kirimari Ward MCA seat and went as far as receiving a nomination certificate from the Maendeleo Chap Chap party.
Mbae was on his way home in his white Toyota Noah, registration number KCX 559A, when gunmen in a car with no number plates blocked his path around 11 pm at Bonanza, before pumping 20 bullets on him.
He was shot numerous times after his Toyota Alphard vehicle was sprayed with bullets at around 11 pm; he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Embu Level Five Hospital.
Confirming the incident, Embu West OCPD Julius Chibule said police were informed of gunshots in the area and arrived at the scene only to find that the victim had already been rushed to the hospital by neighbours.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the bullets tore the victim severely and that he was groaning in pain while bleeding profusely before they took him to the nearest hospital facility.
