Chege shelves her gubernatorial bid to campaign for Raila

Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege has shelved her gubernatorial campaign to focus her efforts on helping Raila Odinga win the presidential election.

This is after Jubilee party offered former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau a direct ticket to run for the Murang’a governor seat last month.

Speaking at Murang’a Teachers Training College yesterday, Chege said she had resigned from politics ahead of the August 9 election.

“Most of my supporters adamantly refused to listen to my justification of making and sticking to that choice… They did not embrace that decision. Yet I was not coerced to do so and I did not do it out of sycophancy for President Uhuru Kenyatta,” she said.

Chege has so far become a summit member of the Azimio One Kenya Alliance.

She explained that she had done a lot of soul searching and had come to the conclusion that the decision will benefit her leadership aspirations in the future.

Chege expressed her intention for area voters to listen to her because “I happen to know some things that you don’t…”

She said she supports Odinga for president, Kenyatta for Mt Kenya monarch and as Jubilee Party negotiator-in-chief for the interests of the people of the region under an Odinga government.

Chege urged Kenyans, particularly those in Mt Kenya, to make informed votes on August 9, stating that the country’s future was at risk if it was left in the hands of unqualified politicians.
