Nassir sworn in as Mombasa governor

Abdulswamad Nassir has today been sworn in as the second official governor of Mombasa.

Nassir who was MVITA MP for the past ten years will be taking over from Hassan Ali Joho.

He was sworn into office in a colorful event at the Mama Ngina waterfront Park in Mombasa.

His deputy Francis Foleni Thoya was also inaugurated today. The former Nation journalist had also served once as the county’s secretary and Lands executive.

The ceremony was presided over by Judge George Dulu and Mombasa Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku.

The elaborate event was attended by Azimio top leaders led by Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua and Wiper Party principal Kalonzo Musyoka.

Many other important leaders that graced the event were; Joho, Senators Mohammed Faki (Mombasa), Ledama Ole Kina (Narok), and five ODM MPs of Mombasa; Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Mohamed Machele (Mvita), Badi Twalib (Jomvu), and Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe).

Nassir was declared winner in the Mombasa county gubernatorial elections after he triumphed his main opponent Hassan Omar after garnering 119,083 while his rival Senator Omar got 98,105.
