Nairobi lady denies stealing innerwear from Naivas Supermarket
A Nairobi lady on trial for theft denied shoplifting offence including stealing panties and other valuables at Naivas Supermarket, Development House branch along Moi Avenue within the Nairobi Central Business District worth Sh4,690.
Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo Micheni, Ann Mwende the charges.
Mwende is accused of stealing one piece Fridali ladies sling bag, four pieces of Tawamu boys boxers, inner pants and one piece Xuanglang boys blue trouser, the property of the supermarket.
Instead, she told the court that she was apprehended while going to make an inquiry at the outlet’s customer care desk.
She is accused of committing the offense on December 19, 2022.
“Your honour, I admit I was with the valuables at the supermarket but I was headed to the customer care when I was arrested. I had not stolen them.” Mwende submitted.
The magistrate ordered that a probation report be presented to her so that she can determine her bail terms after she said she was unable to pay a cash bail of Sh20,000 that Kagendo had ordered her to pay to secure her freedom.
“Your honour, I can only afford a cash bail of Sh5,000. I have no job and I can’t afford Sh20,000,” she said.
