Coexist peacefully, CS Kindiki tells Lamu residents

Communities in Lamu County should coexist in harmony and sort out their differences peacefully, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said.

Addressing a security gathering at Mkunguni Square, Lamu Central Sub-county, Kindiki told residents that they all have a right to live, own property and do business there.

He said any historical grievances, including land disputes, should be resolved in a participatory and consultative manner.

“Any political, religious, or community leader inciting violence and destruction of property, pretending to be fighting for resolution of historical grievances, will be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.” He said.

He added that Lamu Port is a national treasure and that it is expected to benefit the people of Lamu County, adding that the Government will ensure residents enjoy proceeds from the port, including employment opportunities, education, health, and infrastructure development.

On the sale, use and abuse of narcotic drugs, illicit alcohol and other harmful substances, he said the Government has declared an all-out war on drug barons and manufacturers of illicit alcoholic drinks.

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua, Senator Joseph Kamau Githuku, religious and community leaders, and Lamu County security and intelligence committee members were in attendance.
