Parliament will convene for the first session of the 12th parliament on Thursday next week after President Uhuru Kenyatta gave notice to that effect.
In the notice issued today, both Houses (National Assembly and the Senate) will hold their sittings starting 2.30 pm.
The first business of the day will be the swearing in of all the 416 members of parliament after which the election of the two speakers and their deputies will follow.
The two clerks will also administer oaths to the legislators to pave way for the election of the speakers.
After the election of the speakers, the two Houses sittings will then resume on September 5, for the start of business.
The opening of the 12th parliament comes amid a controversy between the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) over their salaries and allowances.
The legislators are scheming to retain their generous perks when they assume office next week, arguing that only the newly elected colleagues should be subjected to the new structure.
A section of the lawmakers have vowed to fight the Sarah Se rem led commission, saying that she was demeaning and treating them unfairly by slashing their allowances.
