Suspended WPP Scangroup CEO Bharat Thakrar resigns

WPP Scangroup Plc founder and Chief Executive Officer Bharat Thakrar has officially tendered his resignation as CEO and board member.

This comes a month after he was suspended alongside chief finance officer Satyabrata Das over allegations of gross misconduct as senior executives of the marketing agency.

In a statement dated March 23, WPP Scangroup PLC have explained that Bharat has exited as both the CEO, board member, and director of the company’s affiliates and subsidiaries.

“The company announces that the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Bharat Thakrar has tendered his resignation as CEO and board member which the board has accepted,” read the statement.

The board further said that the investigation into the allegations of gross misconduct and possible offenses against the two executives will continue.

The board has appointed chief operating officer Alec Graham to act as CEO for the time being on an interim basis.

“…so as to ensure the continued management of the company with the support of the board and the senior executives of the subsidiaries.”

Bharat became Scangroup’s CEO in 1999 and made history as the first CEO of a firm listed at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) to be suspended over ethical misconduct.
