Louis Otieno’s alleged lover Careen Chepchumba was strangled – pathologist
Careen Chepchumba was strangled to death, chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor has told an inquest.
Oduor revealed on Monday that Careen bled in the eyes and neck muscles due to pressure applied on her neck by the unknown assailant.
He said that after conducting the postmortem they formed the opinion the death was due to lack of oxygen because of manual strangulation.
Careen was found dead at her house in Santonia Court in Kilimani, Nairobi, on February 14, 2012 and former TV personality Louis Otieno was the main suspect. She was 26.
In August last year, Otieno’s friend told a Kibera court that he introduced Careen to him as his wife. John Nderitu, owner of Subaru Motors, said Otieno revealed this to him in confidence.
But in January, the lead investigator into Careen’s death said there was no evidence linking anyone to the murder, hence the option for an inquest.
Richard Maobe told the court all the evidence collected at Careen’s home was not sufficient to sustain a murder trial. He said Careen was strangled to death.
On interrogation, Otieno claimed he was in Kajiado when the woman was found dead but Maobe said they did not follow up to confirm the allegations. -The Star
