Kenya bow out of the 2022 FIVB World Championship

Kenya’s representatives at the Volleyball World Championship Malkia Strikers concluded their campaign yesterday at the Gelredome Arena with a 3-1 (15-25,25-19,18-25,20-25) loss at the hands of Puerto Rico in the final pool A fixture.

The African queens put up a spirited fight in a bid to qualify for the 2nd round but all didn’t go as planned.

Coach Paul Bitok chargers needed nothing short of a win to qualify after the win Puerto Rico boosted to six points on the Tally and secured a place in the 2nd round of the competition, and now joins hosts in Netherlands, Italy and Belgium.

Bitok thanked his squad for the efforts sacrifices they made to represent the nation at the world stage.

“Malkia strikers have sacrificed a lot. We have been away from our families for months, working so hard to achieve better results for our beloved country. We may not have met our target as aspired but we learnt a lot during this process and we hope to continue until we achieve our goals. We have a young and senior team with a great future,” he said.

He further addressed the future of the team citing that they would like to inspire others from their experience during the competition.

“We shall be sharing the experience we have gained both with the management, coaches, players and the young generation. We would like to inspire others from what we experienced during our journey in this competition,” he added.

Malkia strikers return to Kenya today after being away for three months.
