Sonko, Kidero in neck-and-neck contest for city top job
Nairobi Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero, and his Jubilee Party political rival, Mike Sonko, are neck-and-neck in the city’s top job contest.
A new poll shows an equal 44% popularity rate for the two in the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat race.
According to the poll conducted between July 13-17, 2017 by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA), Peter Kenneth, comes at a distant third with a 4%, approval rating followed closely by controversial nominee Miguna Miguna at 1%.
While releasing the results, TIFA Research Director, Maggie Ireri, however, indicated that 7% of Nairobi voters are still undecided in the governor’s race with 2% leaning towards Mike Sonko and 1% on Kidero.
The research further shows that Jubilee’s Johnson Sakaja is still on the lead for the Capital’s senatorial seat having a 40% popularity rating with his closest challenger, ODM’s Edwin Sifuna, coming second at 24% while Ramesh Gorasia comes at a distant third at 1%.
On the Women Representatives race, ODM’s Esther Passaris continues to lead though her popularity rate has recorded a drop from 57% to stand at 50% with incumbent, Jubilee’s Rachel Shebesh having an approval rating of 31%.
On an overall, the support base of NASA however continues to take the lead to stand at 53% while the ruling Jubilee Party’s popularity stands at 38% in July 2017.
2,122 respondents living in Nairobi County took part in the survey.
