Slain JKUAT student Rita Waeni who was butchered in Roysambu buried in a private ceremony

Slain university student Rita Waeni Muendo has today been laid to rest in a private ceremony attended by close family members in Makueni county.

Waeni was brutally murdered last month in an ‘Airbnb’ in the Roysambu area of Nairobi where her killer dismembered her body.

A statement by the family spokesperson to media houses, Lilian Mutea stated that the body of the deceased was handed over to the family by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) last week Friday after they had finished conducting the requisite forensic analysis required.

“This morning, February 5, 2024, Waeni’s body was laid to rest at a private ceremony attended only by her family. The funeral service and burial took place at her parent’s home at Mukimwani Village, Kalimani Location, Kisau Division, Makueni county.” Mutea said.

The family has called on the investigating agencies to do a thorough job and ensure that they find justice for their loved daughter Waeni.

“We know that many people have understood the depth of this loss and therefore decision for privacy at this event. We call upon the government to carry out thorough investigations, so that justice for Waeni may prevail.” She added.

In the incident which shocked the country, Waeni was found murdered and her body was dismembered and her head missing which was later found at Kiambaa dam in Kiambu County.

Two Nigerian suspects believed to be killers by the DCI were arrested and are in custody as the DCI proceeds with investigations.
