Six cops in Kianjokoma brothers’ death freed on Sh300,000 bail

Six officers linked to the deaths of Kianjokoma brothers, Embu County, have been released.

Corporal of Police Benson Mputhia, Corporal Consolata Kariuki, Police Constable Martin WAnyama, PC Lilian Cherono, PC Nicholus Sang and PC James Mwaniki have each been ordered to pay a Sh3 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh300,000.

They have also been forbidden from going to Kianjokoma, where the act took place.

However, one of the suspects – Mputhia – who hails from Meru, has been allowed to transit through Embu as he goes to his home in Meru.

The six denied the charges at a hearing in Nairobi and were ordered to be kept in custody until a bail hearing on September 22.

The killing of 22-year-old Benson Njiru Ndwiga and 19-year-old Emmanuel Mutura Ndigwa provoked a national outcry and sometimes violent demonstrations complaining of police brutality.

The brothers were last seen alive on August 1 when they were picked up by police for allegedly being defying nationwide 10:00 pm curfew.

Their bodies were discovered two days later by family members at the local morgue in Embu County.

Police said the pair jumped from a moving vehicle, a claim rejected by their family after an autopsy revealed they had suffered injuries to their heads and ribs.
