Siaya Governor fires 512 nurses, set to advertise positions
Siaya county government has fired 512 nurses who have been on strike since June 5 and is preparing to post job advertisements.
Health chief officer Dorothy Owino said they are finalising details of the advertisements to employ this number of health workers.
“We have tried to reason with the health workers through their senior representatives but their union officials have heavily resisted,” Owino said on Monday.
“And because the strike is illegal, we have decided to advertise their positions.”
She noted they will hire other nurses through their Public Service Board to ensure competence “so as to save the lives of desperate patients”.
“I am appealing to residents who qualify for the job to apply. We want to make the replacements as soon as possible.”
