Sakaja approve construction of Nairobi Expressway exit into CBD

Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has approved the construction of an exit for the Nairobi Expressway into the Central Business District (CBD) at Uhuru Park.

Speaking while meeting with transport stakeholders, Sakaja said that the county government would fix the traffic menace usually experienced at the Westlands roundabout during peak hours.

“We shall sort out the current disorganisation at the Westlands roundabout shortly. Interacted with commuters, traders and Matatu operators this afternoon together with my team,” he said.

On November 18, 2022, Sakaja directed buses and matatus serving losng distance routes to relocate to the Green Park Terminus.

A section of matatu operators however opposed the idea arguing that the move would hurt their businesses.

Last year, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced that modification works in the Nairobi Expressway would enable motorists from Westlands to land at Nyayo House while those from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will land at Haile Selassie Avenue or Green park terminus.
