At least 38,000 candidates to join national schools, says Magoha
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has stated that 38,797 candidates who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination in 2021 have been accepted into National Schools.
Speaking during the Form One selection process at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, says 214,960 others have been placed in extra county schools while 258,456 will be enrolled in county schools.
About 726,311 pupils will attend sub-county schools, with 2,045 being assigned to special needs schools.
The council recorded 1,225,507 candidates in 28,316 KCPE examination centres, this year, compared to 1,191,752 candidates in 28,467 centers next year.
CS Magoha announced May 3 as the reporting date for Form One students.
There were 11,857 individuals who scored between 400 and 500 marks out of that total.
There are 69,880 pupils in private schools. There are 32 special needs secondary schools in the district, with a total enrollment of 1,453 pupils.
Candidates who achieve a score of 380 or higher are usually guaranteed a spot in a national or extra-county school.
CS Magoha affirmed that all the 1.2 million students will get slots in secondary schools.
Form One students will be required to report to school on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
Students will have to physically report to their respective schools with principals asked not to admit students on the Nemis portal unless the same condition is met.
This, he noted, led to most national schools receiving overwhelming applications as the number of applicants surpassed available slots.
The CS further advised that bursary funds from the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF) be spent on learners in boarding schools, saying the government pays the entire costs of day secondary schools.
For SMS options, candidates are required to send only their index number to 22263.
Alternatively, they can also access their selection results on the website www.education.go.ke.
Schools can also access a complete list of their candidates’ Form One selection by accessing the National Education Management Information System Nemis portal.
In line with the 100 percent transition policy, CS Magoha announced that the government will be offering 9,000 scholarships to needy students.
However, he added that 4,000 of the same will be preferred to students from urban informal settlements.
