Ruto commit to serve all Kenyans as he welcomes Supreme Court’s verdict

President-elect William Ruto has committed to serve all Kenyans irregardless of whom they elected.

Speaking to the nation from his residence in Karen, Ruto expressed his gratitude to the Almighty God in his inaugural address.

He acknowledged the difficult obstacles they had to overcome to be where they are now, claiming God’s favour was the reason.

“Today the people of Kenyans have made a choice which has been confirmed by the judiciary. We are grateful as a team. We have come on a long journey and we have worked hard. As the bible teaches in Provers 20, some trust on Chariots and others horses but we trust in God,” he said.

The president-elect, who ran for office on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, has consistently prioritised his relationship with God above all else.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga accepted the Supreme Court verdict upholding the election of Ruto as the 5th president of the Republic of Kenya but vowed to continue with the struggle “for accountability”.

Through a statement soon after the verdict that dismissed his petition to overturn Ruto’s election,

“We respect the opinion of the court although we vehemently disagree with their decision,” Odinga said.

The Supreme Court today upheld Ruto’s victory after first rejecting several of the petition’s major arguments.

In a unanimous ruling, the seven-judge panel, chaired by Chief Justice Martha Koome, rejected one of the key claims made against the ICT system.

Additionally, it was determined that Ruto received 50 per cent plus one votes, as reported by the electoral commission.

The presidential candidate for Odinga argued in the appeal contesting Ruto’s victory that the electoral commission’s use of technology had serious flaws that prevented him from winning.

He asserted that the electoral commission rigged the final vote count in favour of Ruto, who was ultimately pronounced the victor.

“We declare the election of the 1st Respondent as president-elect to be valid under Article 143 of the constitution” Koome said.
