Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata nominates former TSC CEO Nancy Macharia as Public Service Board Chairperson
Macharia has been at the helm of TSC for two terms spanning eight years whose tenure was marked by mixed controversies ranging from entrenched corruption claims the latest being skewed employment and teachers and dishing out of employment letters to politicians immediately before her exit
Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata has nominated immediate former Teachers Service Commission Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia as the chairperson designate of the Murang’a Public Service Board, days after proceeding on terminal leave.
Macharia has been at the helm of TSC for two terms spanning eight years whose tenure was marked by mixed controversies ranging from entrenched corruption claims the latest being skewed employment and teachers and dishing out of employment letters to politicians immediately before her exit.
In a notice tabled at the Murang’a County Assembly, Macharia has been nominated alongside other members and a secretary for the board.
“According to Section 6 of the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act 2017 and Section 58A (7) of the County Governments Act, 2012, vide a letter Ref. MCG/CS/GOV/ST/2(162) dated June 10, 2025, the County Assembly received notification that Governor of Murang’a County Government Dr Irungu Kang’ata has nominated the following as Chairperson, Members and Secretary to the Murang’a County Public Service Board,” the message presented to the Assembly by the Speaker read in part.
Among other notable figures nominated are the founding Chairman of the Rural & Urban Private Hospitals Association (RUPHA),
Brian Lishenga Makamu.

- Nancy Njeri Macharia – Chairperson
- Louis Mwende Musikali – Member
- Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua – Member
- Brian Lishenga Makamu – Member
- Oscar Kimani Gathura – Secretary
The names of the nominees have now been submitted to the County Assembly Committees on Governance, Labour and Social Welfare, and Justice and Legal Affairs, in line with Standing Order 47, for vetting and approval.
“The committee shall hold an approval hearing/vetting on the suitability of the nominees to hold office and table its report before the Assembly for consideration,” the Speaker directed.
The Assembly is expected to consider each nomination within 21 days from the day when the names were tabled at the Assembly.
If approved, Macharia will transition into her new role at the county level after a decade at the helm of the Teachers Service Commission.
She proceeded on her terminal leave with Eveleen Mitei being nominated as the Acting CEO to replace Macharia.
