Prime suspect in Agnes Tirop’s murder detained for 20 days

The prime suspect in the murder of athlete Agnes Tirop will be detained for 20 days pending completion of investigations.
Ibrahim Rotich, who was the husband to the deceased, was today arraigned before Iten Law Courts senior principal magistrate Charles Kutwa.
Prosecutor Judith Ayuma sought 20 more days to detain him in custody.
“Your honour, I plead for more time because DCI officers are yet to go round the country to carry out a probe with a view to apprehend more suspects connected to the killing of the runner before being charged for murder,” she said.
The court directed that the accused be detained at Railways Police Station in Eldoret and to also undergo a mental assessment at Eldoret Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The case will be mentioned on November 9.
Tirop’s body was found with stab wounds on Wednesday in her house in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet.
Rotich, who had gone missing after the incident, was on Thursday apprehended by detectives who have been pursuing him in Changamwe, Mombasa County.
Accoridng to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Rotich was nabbed while trying to flee to a neighboring country to evade justice.
