Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja is facing pressure to convene the first sitting of the county assembly.
This has set him on a direct clashing path with the members of the county assembly just weeks after his inauguration.
Members of County Assembly (MCAs) allied to Azimio One Kenya One Alliance have accused the governor of deliberately delaying the gazettement of the first sitting of the county house with an aim to acquire numbers for the speaker and Deputy speaker seats vote.
“The governor is playing politics with the opening date in order to get the numbers ahead of the election of the speaker and the deputy. They’re trying to buy our members,” Baba Dogo MCA Geoffrey Majiwa said.
Kenya Kwanza Alliance affiliated MCA’s however, came to the defence of Sakaja, stating that the governor was waiting for the gazettement of nominated ward representatives in order to have a smooth operation in the county assembly.
“We must appreciate that the governor is not doing anything illegal, “said Mwangi.
44 governors have already gazetted days for the inaugural sittings with the exception of Kakamega Governor, who had been sworn on Thursday last week.
