Owner of collapsed building in Ruaka arrested at JKIA
The owner of the collapsed building that killed two people in Ruaka, Kiambu county last week has been arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in an attempt to flee the country.
Kiambu County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha said that the owner of the building is currently detained at Kiambu Town Police Station waiting to be arraigned.
“We have arrested the owner of the Ruaka building and she is being held by the police pending prosecution,” Nkanatha said.
“She will be arraigned and plans are still underway to nab the engineer and those who were involved in erecting the building that killed two family members,” he added.
Nkanatha also said that efforts were underway to arrest the property owner of yet another building that collapsed in Ruiru moments after occupants were evacuated after the building started developing cracks in the walls and support columns.
Officials from the National Construction Authority (NCA) had condemned the building declaring it unsafe which led to the evacuation process.
Nkanatha revealed that a team from the national and county government had been formed to inspect buildings in the county.
