Mutyambai orders probe into sexual harassment claim after female officer’s video goes viral

Inspect General of Police Hilary Mutyambai has ordered investigations after a video of a female officer went viral on social media where she laments against of unfair treatment and sexual harassment.
On his twitter, Mutyambai said that the officer who is attached to the Traffic Department in Mombasa County had complained against a merchant and was subjected to an inquiry by Directorate of Criminal Investigation(DCI) officers resulting into a departmental action.
“I have directed the Gender and Children Directorate to independently investigate the matter and give a report within 7 days,” read his tweet.
In the video, the police officer asks the IG to let her resign as she can no longer tolerate unfair treatment.
“I beg to resign peacefully… I’ve written several resignation letters, attached to hospital letter but they don’t reach the IG. We can’t be suffering. Others go before they kill or they commit suicide. I can’t kill anybody and I can’t commit suicide. I’ll go out there do work diligently like other Kenyans,” she says in the video.
“Mimi naomba nipewe tu nafasi niende, nitoke, niresign peacefully…. Nimeandika several resignation letters, attached to hospital letter… Hazifiki. Letters hazifiki kwa Inspector General. Sasa, hatuwezi kuwa tunateseka. Wengine wanaenda kabla waue ama they commit suicide. Mimi [inaudible] kuua mtu na siwezi commit suicide. Ntaenda nje na ntafanya kazi vizuri sana kama raia wengine.”
She accuses the office of Internal Affairs of not addressing the plight of female police officers and even urges President Uhuru Kenyatta to disband it.
