Police probing mysterious death of New Zealand entrepreneur in Kenya

Police have lauched an investigation into the mysterious death of a young New Zealand national who died in Karen, Nairobi County.

Jake Millar, who founded a Sh1.2 billion company while he was still a teenager, was found dead on the balcony of his house in the Karen yesterday.

The body was found hanging on a rope at his balcony in an apparent suicide.

Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi said they are investigating the incident.

“We were informed of a body of the young man at his house and we are now pursuing the matter. We were told it was suicide but investigators are on it,” he said.

The 26-year-old is said to have been hiding in Kenya to avoid backlash after his business went down subjecting him to struggles and poverty.

However, Millar had refuted the claims explaining that he was only jetting into Kenya to try new tricks and have a new experience in life.

In a statement, New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that already his family was being provided with consular assistance.

“The Ministry is aware of what happened and the death of Jake Millar and is currently providing assistance to his family,” it said in a statement.

Millar was the brains behind Unfiltered and Oompher companies which he founded while still a teenager in High School.

In March, the former Forbes 30 under 30 lister and teenage millionaire had sold his business-education start-up Unfiltered – a move which displeased his cashed-up investors and earned him a lot of criticism from New Zealand media.

His first business enterprise was Oompher which he launched at the age of 18 when he was still studying at Christchurch Boys High School.

The company could later be sold to the New Zeland Government at a six-figure sum which was never made public.
