Police launch probe into the murder of 37-year-old man in Elgeyo Marakwet

The body was discovered in Ntororo village with blood oozing from the mouth, a swollen neck, and multiple injuries on the hands

Police in Kaptagat, Elgeyo Marakwet county are probing the suspected murder of a 37 years old man whose badly injured and lifeless body was found in the banks of a stream within Ntororo village.

Locals have since identified the deceased as Stanley Kipkemoi Kendagor,

The body was discovered in Ntororo village with blood oozing from the mouth, a swollen neck, and multiple injuries on the hands.

His shoes, jacket, shirt and trousers were found at a different location uphill. It is suspected he was killed and the body dumped into the stream.

Preliminary police findings show he could have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped in the stream.

The body was moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

This comes barely a week following the gruesome murder Catholic priest Father Alois Cheruiyot, who was murdered during a peace mission at Tot last week, Elgeyo Marakwet.

Yesterday, West Pokot leaders condemned the killing and called for government intervention to eliminate armed bandits operating in the area.

During a thanksgiving ceremony at St Mary’s Cheptulel Girls, West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin, Sigor MP Peter Lochakapong, Kapenguria Member of Parliament (MP) Samuel Moroto, and Woman Representative Rael Aleutum called for a joint security operation to eradicate the criminals.

Governor Kachapin urged residents to reject retaliatory attacks and cooperate with security agencies.

“We must not allow criminals to reverse the gains we have made in peacebuilding. If someone has committed a crime, they should be held accountable individually. We must not tarnish the name of an entire community,” he said.

Meanwhile, the body of a woman was found in a river after she had been murdered by unknown people in Nyataro, Etago, Kisii county.

Police said the body was found in River Gucha long after the murder. The body had a deep cut on the forehead and the back of the head.

It also had both its ears chopped off by the assailants. Her eyes were also gouged, and the private parts were swollen when the body was found.

The body was moved to a local mortuary pending positive identification and autopsy examination.
