Police canteen distances itself from cholera outbreak

A restaurant at the centre of investigations over cholera outbreak that affected 90 police officers has set the record straight.

Nairobi Area Police Canteen General Manager Kamenwa Mburu in a press statement clarified that the food served to the officers was not outsourced as reported in the press.

The canteen, which was temporally closed by government  after the hospitalization of officers in various hospital, said their staff, police officers from Nairobi County and walk-in customers have not fallen sick nor got infected by the disease.

“We laud the Ministry of Health and City Hall for their quick responses, the advice and enlightenment they accord us after issuing a notice of not use the canteen as a precautionary measurers as they continue with their investigation,”said Mburu.

Mburu said the canteen has been in operation for more than 10 years offering catering services to officers on daily basis.

The general manager admitted catering for more than 8000 law enforcers during the just concluded general elections.

Mburu said during the Supreme court ruling, the canteen was tasked with responsibility of catering for around 3,000 officers out of who 400 were from outside Nairobi County.

“It’s worth to note that the 4000 officers were being offered accommodation at the Multimedia University whereby they were also being served breakfast and supper,”a statement read in parts.
