Police arrest 17-year-old boy suspected to be member of panga wielding gang in Mombasa

A 17-year-old boy has been is currently in custody after he was arrested by police in the coastal town of Mombasa.

The juvenile is suspected to be a member of a panga-wielding gang notorious for mugging and demanding money from members of the public in Mombasa and its environs.

According to the National Police Service, the boy is currently in custody awaiting arraignment.

The minor was arrested on Saturday in Majaoni area after the chief reported spotting the gang that was armed with crude weapons to police officers at Kiembeni Police station.

Police have in the meantime also launched a manhunt on his accomplices who managed to escape arrest.

The servicemen have since assured residents that it has intensified patrols in the region to ensure the safety of the public.

“We however, encourage the public, particularly the youth, to desist from being involved in any criminal activities,” the Police Service added.
