Plea taking of an alleged Nairobi based fake medical doctor deferred to November
The planned plea against an alleged Nairobi based fake medical doctor has been deferred until November 16,2024.
This is after the presiding Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe heard that the said doctor is admitted at a mental hospital.
He is said to be engaging in private practice as a clinical officer without a valid practising certificate contrary to section 20(1) as read with Section 20(4) of the clinical officers Act No.20 of 2017.
Through his lawyers, the suspect identified as Jared Omondi Ochiko produced medical documents in court indicating that he is unwell.
He therefore did not appear in court.
According to the charge sheet seen by The Informer Media Group, Omondi has been practising as a medical officer while not being registered contrary to Section 22(2) of the Medical Practitioners and Dentist Act Cap 253 of the Laws of Kenya.
Omondi is accused that on September 26,2024 at Eastlands Pathogenix Laboratory in Umoja within Nairobi county, knowingly offered consultation drug prescription and sick off from duties without being registered by the council.
He is also accused of using the title “doctor ” without registration as a medical practitioner contrary to Section 22 (3) of the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act Cap 253 Laws of Kenya.
Another count indicates that Omondi has been using a premise which is not licensed as a health institution contrary to the law.
Further, Omomndi is accused that on similar dates, he was found at Eastlands Pathology Centre, which premises are not registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
The matter will be mentioned on November 16, 2024 to confirm authenticity of medical documents that have been presented in court.
