CBC is here to stay, Gachagua says

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has affirmed that the government is not going to scrap off Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).

Speaking on Wednesday at Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) Research Institute, Gachagua said the government will only review and improve CBC.

“CBC is going nowhere, it is not being repealed, it is only going to be improved,” he said.

He also thanked outgoing Education CS George Magoha for his commitment and patriotism to ensuring CBC works.

“We want to assure you we are not in a hurry to get rid of you, take your time. This is your country, this is your government,” Gachagua said.

Rigathi was presiding over the launch of a three-day induction for the 49-member Education Reforms Taskforce which was constituted by President William Ruto to review the CBC.

The task force will evaluate the CBC which has been the bone of contention in the education sector.

The DP urged the taskforce to be open minded all through as all eyes are fixed on them and the responsibility entirely rests with them.

Kenyan scholars have seen a series of substitutes all aiming to channel out fully baked graduates, from the 7-4-2-3 Education System to the 8-4-4 Education System and now to the Competency-Based Curriculum Education Model.

The opposition and support for CBC, the newest education model, has been witnessed from numerous regions around the nation in equal measure.
