Over 5000 bags of expired sugar seized in Mombasa

Over 5000 bags of expired sugar has been found in Mombasa county in a warehouse that is believed to be repackaging seized sugar that was ruled out for human consumption, and being sold to Kenyans.

The National Assembly Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives while inspecting go-downs that stored seized contraband sugar, discovered that some of the seized sugar had being released illegally, and they were lead to a go-down, Inter-Africa warehouse, that was in operation but stored over 5000 bags of expired sugar.

He ordered that the warehouse be sealed, isolated and be treated as a crime scene as the Director of Criminal investigation, KRA and the Multi- Agency had no idea that there was such contraband sugar in it.

“We are suspect ting that the other missing contraband sugar, might be getting repackaged in this warehouse, we are treating it as scene of crime, we have also found industrial sugar here which shows it is being used,” said Kenga.
