Our police have no time to raid people at night, DP Gachagua fires back at Matiang’i’s claims of police visit to his home
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fired back at former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s claims of an alleged visit by police officers to his home at night.
Speaking during a thanksgiving church service at the Nakuru Athletics Club today, DP Gachagua said that the police will only do what they are tasked with according to the law.
“We have no time to deploy our police officers on nonsense! The police service we have today is professional and has no time for politics, they have no time to go and raid a house at night. So the press should be factual when reporting on some issues,” he said.
He further asked the media to avoid misreporting facts.
Gachagua’s remarks comes after claims by the former Interior minister of a visit by elite police officers at his Karen home at night.
According to his lawyer Danstan Omari, his client was ready to be summoned to appear before any police station and record a statement provided there have charges against him.
“I’ve just received information that police have surrounded the home of former Interior CS Matiang’i and I was shocked to hear that this is happening at this hour. They say that the more things change, the more they remain the same. We are now witnessing what this country has been through before, the times of late-night arrests and detentions of people without any formal charges. This is what actually appears to be coming back to our country,” he had stated.
Azimio One Kenya coalition leader addressed the incident stating that if the former CS had committed a crime that warrants his arrest, he could go and present himself at a police station for interrogation and record a statement instead of resulting into uncalled for measures.
