The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife has today said that Kenya has recorded 72 per cent drop compared to 1,718,550 international arrivals in 2019 between January to October.
According to data released today by Tourism Research Institute total number of international visitors through all points of entry to Kenya from January to October, 2020 was 470,971.
“The Country experienced a good performance for January and February, 2020
followed by a drastic decline in March, 2020 due to the emergence of Covid-19
pandemic globally,” read the press statement.
The ministry confirmed that near total collapse of international arrivals occurred between April to July due to the travel restrictions, and a slight improvement took place after the resumption of international flights in August, 2020.
“We are not out of the woods yet, but we are optimistic the situation will gradually improve once the vaccines being developed become readily available to the masses. The whole world will be safe only when everybody is vaccinated. So we should encourage mass distribution of the vaccines once they are ready without discrimination”, Cabinet Minister, Najib Balala said.
However, the country has recorded a gradual growth in arrivals, since the resumption of international flights on 1st August,2020.
That has registered 14,049 arrivals in August, 26,018 in September, and 39,894, in October respectively indicating a steady growth of travel confidence and trust for the Magical Kenya destination.
