Governor Kibwana launches Sh58M solar powered project

Makueni Governor Professor Kivutha Kibwana has launched a Sh58 million solar powered high mast floodlights in Wote Municipality.

The project was launched yesterday in Wote town which involves erection of 27 solar powered high mast flood lights.

‘The lighting of the town will improve security and help the business community to conduct their business in a conducive environment,” he said.

According to Kibwana, the project will be funded through the Kenya Urban Support Programme.

While addressing the media, Kibwana said that he contractor should make sure that the project is delivered within the specified period or less.

The unemployed youth are expected to get jobs during this phase one project wich will reduce poverty afflicting many.

The governor further said that the project will be sustainable and cheaper to maintain.

“This solar powered lights will use natural sun and no costs will be incurred,” said the governor.

He also revealed that the phase two solar powered project will take 78 million shillings. However he did not mention when the project will begin.

Wote/Nziu ward will get five of these. Other wards within the municipality are: Ukia 6, Muvau/Kikumini 4, Nzaui/Kilili/Kalamba 4, Kathonzweni 3, Mavindini 2 and Kako/Waia 3.
