The Deputy Director of Medical Services at Nairobi Metropolitan Services(NMS) Musa Mohammed has been released on a cash bail of Sh200, 000 or a bond of Sh500, 000 in a child trafficking case.
Musa Mohammed who appeared in court today is accused of conspiring with Fred Makallah and Selina Awour, all social workers at Mama Lucy Hospital, to traffic children at Mama Lucy Hospital between March 1 and November 16, 2020.
Despite Makallah being the organizer of trafficking children out of the hospital, Mohammed and Awour were charged with a second count since they failed to use all reasonable cause to prevent the trafficking of children.
Makallah who faces a total of five counts has been released on a Sh1 million cash bail or a bond of Sh2 million.
Awuor was released on a cash bail of Sh200, 000 or a bond of Sh500, 000
Mohammed was supposed to be charged on Monday alongside other suspects but he did not appear in court as his representatives said he was sick and admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
The case will be mentioned on December 9.
The suspects were arrested last week after an expose by BBC’s Africa Eye unearthed a child trafficking scheme whereby vulnerable women are being preyed on in Nairobi to enhance a thriving black market for babies.
On Monday, the court cleared Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital chief executive Dr Emma Mutio and administrator Dr Regina Musembi of child trafficking allegations.
