NGOs call on government to keep election promises as world marks poverty eradication day

“We plead with the government to make sure they fulfill their promises of coming up with employment strategies for the youth made during the election campaign period,” stated Cheboi.

According to Cheboi, stakeholders and well-established NGOs at the county level should involve themselves and give their support in poverty eradication.

“City counties including Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, and upcoming city counties should make sure that there are no slums in the near future,” he added

The chairperson encouraged partner NGO organizations in the field to collaborate with both national and county governments in efforts to ease the poverty situation in the nation.

Also speaking at the event was the Director National NGO council Catherine Gado, who touched on some of the causes of poverty such as lack of proper education, inequality, absence of social service and insecurity.

“In access to social service such as clean water can lead to conflict which the brings in security and that in itself breeds poverty,” she said

“There is also mental poverty we should sensitize ourselves and try to get education to improve ourselves,” she added
