Mwamba, KCB qualify for Dala Sevens quarter-finals in Kisumu
Kabeberi champions KCB and Driftwood sevens defending champions Mwamba RFC qualified for today’s cup quarter-finals in the ongoing Dala sevens in the lake city side of Kisumu.
The bankers on their way to the quarter-finals thrashed Blak Blad and Impala RFC to book a slot in Sunday’s quarter-finals of the Dala Sevens rugby tournament being held at the Jamhuri show ground.
A win in the quarter-finals will guarantee the teams a spot in the semi-finals of the 17th edition of the Dala Sevens tournament.
KCB comfortably won their opening fixture demolishing varsity lads Blak Blad 31-0 before overpowering Impala 19-0 in their second match of the day.
The bankers also saw off Strathmore Leos 21-10 in a match that started with a one-minute silence to pay tributes to former KCB forward Jerry Olola who died on Thursday.
Kulabu on the other side thrashed Kisumu RFC 26-7 in their opening fixture before losing 22-24 to Nakuru RFC in a close encounter.
The Bankers will play varsity side Catholic Monks while Mwamba books a date with another fast-rising varsity side Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in a mouthwatering fixture.
KCB was in Group C alongside varsity lads Strathmore Leos, Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad and Impala.
The bankers are aiming for a Dala Sevens win to extend their current lead in the National Sevens circuit that stands at 58 points.
Strathmore Leos are sitting second on 53 points.
Dala Sevens tournament is organized by the host club Kisumu RFC.
The National Sevens series heads to Nakuru next weekend for the Prinsloo Sevens tournament.
