United Democratic Alliance chairman Johnson Muthama has chastised President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political partner Raila Odinga for mistreating Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka over the running mate matter.
Speaking at a rally in Kangundo, Machakos county, Muthama stated that Kalonzo has served as the country’s second-in-command and deserves appropriate respect despite the possibility of being sidelined ahead of the August elections.
“I want to tell the President and Raila Odinga not to mistreat Kalonzo, you should give him the respect due to him. Where I am in Kenya Kwanza I am respected,” he said.
Muthama further noted that Azimio One Kenya Coalition had belittled the perceived Kamba kingpin using Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu who is below him.
Kalonzo was a Vice-President and even if you are not going to give him what he wants just respect him. Kalonzo should not be made to look like anybody’s prisoner,” said Muthama.
Kalonzo has been lobbying to be chosen deputy, with his most recent remarks early this week indicating that he is also from Mount Kenya, should it be a criterion for selection in order to win the region’s vote-rich voters.
“Some people argue that the running mate must be a Kikuyu. I’m actually from the mountain. I went to school in Meru. I speak a little bit of Meru so in truth I’m part of the mountain,” said Kalonzo.
