Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja unveils cabinet nominees

Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has today officially unveiled his cabinet members who will be vetted by the City County Assembly.

Sakaja announced that the nominated County Executive Committee (CEC) members will assume office by mid next month after being cleared by the County Assembly.

“We have, following continued consultations with the people of Nairobi, set out our priority areas to get Nairobi moving.  We shall do this by creating an environment that promotes citizen engagement, and makes it easy for you to access services,” said Sakaja.

“Today, we introduce the nominees for County Executive Committee Members for Nairobi City County Government. This team of men and women have been carefully selected to meet the challenge of the responsibility before them,” he added.

In the appointments, Charles Kerich has been appointed to head the Finance and Economic Affairs docket, Michael Gumo will hold the Innovation and technology docket, Brian Mulama (Talent, Skills Development and Care), Patrick Mbogo (Mobility and Works), Stephen Gathuita Mwangi (Built Environment and Urban Planning), Maureen Njeri (Environment, Water, Food and Agriculture), Anastacia Mutethya (Health, Wellness and Nutrition) and Suzzanne Silantoi (Inclusivity, Public Participation and Customer Service).

On the newly introduced sectors that have been appointed to Ibrahim Auma Nyangoya (Boroughs Administration and Personnel) and Rosemary Kariuki (Business and Hustler Opportunities field) will directly report to deputy governor James Muchiri.

Jairus Musumba has been nominated to be the County Secretary while David Njoroge (Chief of Staff), Lawrence Wambua (Economic Affairs Advisor), Elias Mutuma (Legal Advisor), Samora Otieno (Health Advisor), William Ndung’u (Political Advisor), Washington Yotto Ochieng (Mobility Advisor).

Yotto Ochieng is also the Head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering department and also chair in Positioning and Navigation Systems.

He is also the senior security science fellow at the Institute for Security Science and Technology (ISST) at the Imperial College London.
