Tuju calls on Jubilee Party aspirants to end campaigns tomorrow

Jubilee Party (JP) today ordered aspirants  to end nomination campaign rallies tomorrow.

JP Secretary General Raphael Tuju also urged aspirants to collect their agent accreditation tomorrow ahead of the party primaries on Friday.

The agent will be accredited upon signing of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Electoral Code of Conduct that will be administered by the County Electoral Board.

“All aspirants and agents will be required to be at the polling station by 5am to verify the records and serial numbers of the ballot papers,”said Tuju.

Tuju assured aspirants that the polling will be conducted in accordance with the Jubilee Polling Book that mirrors the electoral commission standards and other internationally recognized best practices.

He warned aspirants against using branded merchandise at the polling centers. ” No canvassing of any kind will be allowed around the polling station. Those who have  voted will not be allowed to stay in  the queue. No use of public address system with music or announcement or any form of campaigning will be allowed on Thursday and Friday,”read the statement.

The party National Election Board chairman Andrew Musangi said  the exercises is governed by Section 31 of the Elections Act and any attempt to subvert the process is actionable by law and the party will not hesitant to act.
Tuju has warned aspirants in the 33 counties against disrupting the party’s primaries on April 21.

He cautioned aspirants planning to cause violence during the nomination that they risk being  disqualified from the August 8 elections.

“Disciplinary action might include revocation of membership and subsequent disqualification from election,”said Tuju.

The SG said mechanism have been put in place for disgruntled members to lodge their complaint after the exercise.
The NEB chairman allayed fears of a nomination fall-out saying the party primaries will be free and fair.

Musangi  reminded Jubilee candidates that the nominations will be free and fair as Tuju pledged to conduct credible party primaries. He admitted that most nominations are prone to irregularities because of lack of capacity and logistical support but assured a different scenario next Friday.

The party rescinded a decision to merge polling stations in its stronghold after aspirants failed to agree.

The nomination will be conducted in 23,000 out of the 44,000 gazetted polling stations in the 33 counties.

Tuju said nomination materials  and party list have been dispatched  to the 33 counties. The ballot papers have five security features taht will not be known during the nomination day.
