Maseno School board quits after principal’s interdiction

The leadership of Maseno High School today suffered yet another a blow after its Board of Management (BoM) members tendered their resignations.

This comes after claims of students’ sodomy cases that also led to the suspension of the school Principal Paul Otula.

Otula was interdicted by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) over reports that a form one student at the institution was sodomised.

The school head was asked to proceed on a 30-day compulsory leave to pave way for detailed investigations into the allegations and the TSC appointed Homa Bay High School Principal Andrew Buop as his replacement.

Last month, students in the schools rioted demanding the reinstatement of Otula insisting that they would not go back to classes without him back.

The learners turned their anger on and attacked journalists who had gone to cover the riots.

However, in a new turn of events, the board comprising about10 members and led by their chairman Carey Orege, announced their resignation and accused the school sponsor (church) and the Education Ministry of ignoring them in making decision to carry out disciplinary action against the principal.

Orege argued that the board has had several meetings with stakeholders and the church over the matter but the latter then   holds separate meeting with the ministry without involving the other stakeholders.
