Hundreds of Merile residents in Marsabit County demonstrate against the installation of electrification project by Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco).
The residents claim that their land was encroached by the company without their knowledge and need immediate compensation of the destroyed property.
They heavily put blames on Marsabit county government who they accused of failing to give them Sh49 million meant for compensation.
The residents said they would not adhere to the evacuation notice because they do not have a place to relocate to.
Christopher Lempasi, area resident said: “We are greatly shocked by Ketraco company encroachment of our land without our consent. We are counting losses now.”
Ketraco staff declined to commend on the issue.
