Man with Sabina Chege in viral photo speaks

The man whose photo with Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege went viral after he was wrongly identified as Waziri Benson Chacha, the suspect accused of conning MPs and senior government officials, has spoken for the first time, lifting the lid on his association with the MP.

In an exclusive interview with Nation, Samuel Wanjii said he was a member of a youth team that campaigned for Ms Chege’s election during the last General Election.

Mr Wanjii said the photograph in which he appears wearing red trousers posing with the MP was taken at Great North Resort in Makuyu, where various campaign teams for the Woman Rep had gathered to celebrate Ms Chege’s election victory.

Mr Wanjii, 22, said he received the news that his photo was trending online from a member of a church he attends.

Mr Wanjii, who is the chairperson of a men’s group and the youth secretary at his church, says he has been distressed since the photo started trending online. He was overwhelmed by calls from family members and friends who wanted to get first-hand information from him about the allegations.
